At this moment in time, November 2001, Switzerland is petitioning the FCI for separate breed registration. The new breed, if this should pass, will be known as The White Shepherd, mother country, Switzerland.

In order to accomplish this, the breeders in Switzerland have done their homework and created/imported 8 unrelated lines and have had to breed these 3 generations, white to white.
